PEACH GARDEN
SINGAPORE
Peach Garden Condominium, built in the early 1970s during Singapore's fascination with modernism, required the refurbishment of a single 4 bedroom apartment unit to accommodate a family of four, a grandmother, and a helper. Over the years, the unit had undergone several alterations, resulting in the loss of original design elements, including the common spaces that enjoyed cross-ventilation with windows on three sides. The client's objective was to have a bright and well-ventilated space with ample storage.
Our approach for this refurbishment project centered around simplicity and drew inspiration from the apartment's original layout. We sought to recreate the main free-flowing space that unified the entire unit, allowing streams of natural light and sea breezes to permeate. To complement the existing marble floor, which was restored, we adopted a neutral color palette. The walls and cabinetry predominantly featured white finishes to showcase the client's personal art collection and vintage furniture.
Restoring the original layout was a key aspect of the project. By removing unnecessary walls and partitions, we reinstated the open and spacious feel that characterized the initial design. This not only enhanced the overall flow but also facilitated the penetration of natural light and ventilation deep into the spaces.
Recognizing the importance of storage, we incorporated ample storage solutions into the refurbishment. Custom-built cabinetry was designed to maximize space efficiency and provide practical storage options. These storage solutions seamlessly integrated with the overall design, maintaining a clutter-free and organized living environment.
In conclusion, the refurbishment of the apartment unit at Peach Garden Condominium aimed to provide a bright, well-ventilated space with ample storage for the family of four, grandmother, and helper. Our approach embraced simplicity and drew inspiration from the original layout, combining it with a neutral color palette to complement the restored marble floor. By preserving key design elements and incorporating practical storage solutions, we achieved a space that meets the client's requirements while honoring the condominium's modernist heritage.
